WE ARE WORKING ON IMPLEMENTING A SYSTEM THROUGH WHICH WE WILL BE ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR THE PRINT ISSUE ONLINE. WHILE THIS IS GOING ON, WE WILL TEMPORARILY REFRAIN FROM ACCEPTING ANY SUBMISSIONS BY REGULAR MAIL. WE SUSPECT THIS HIATUS WILL LAST APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS. THANKS FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING. FOR NOW, PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SUBMISSIONS SENT VIA REGULAR MAIL WILL BE RETURNED UNREAD.

We consider fiction, essays and poetry that have not been previously published in English. For the print issue, please submit only one manuscript at a time (1 story, 1 essay, or 3-5 poems). We accept novel or memoir excerpts provided they have not yet been published in English and can stand alone as short stories or essays.

We make every effort to respond within twelve weeks. There are no set guidelines as to content or length. Submissions must contain your name, address and a telephone number where you can be reached, and must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Simultaneous submissions are accepted provided you notify us immediately, either in writing or by email at swinkeditors[at]gmail.com, if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please note that we do not accept submissions for the print magazine via email or fax.

For work published in the print magazine (after edits are done to our satisfaction and the piece is accepted for publication) we offer authors four copies of the issue in which their work appears. We acquire first North American serial rights, non-exclusive, one-time anthology rights, and online serial rights. Payment may also be offered, depending on length and genre.

Takes One to Know One features essays in which a writer, musician, filmmaker, lawyer, postal worker, football player, funeral home director, scientist, circus clown, or just about anyone, writes about someone else, living or dead, who shares his or her vocation or avocation.

Peregrinations features essays on travel or journeys.

Damaged Darlings is a section for collaborative writing in which one author hands off a story of theirs that's been abandoned for whatever reason, to another writer they trust to complete. This experiment in literary genetics is meant to yield a final product that is superior to the original, and that, like offspring, bears the literary DNA of both its parents.

You can also submit to Swink’s expanded online edition, featuring new material monthly. Click here for information and submission guidelines!
