| Hi there.
Welcome to Swink’s online edition. We’re here
to keep the Swink faith and represent on a somewhat regular
basis while our pals over at the print
edition are working hard to bring you the next analog issue.
We’re no less discerning than they are—though our tastes
may be a little weirder—but we publish more because we can: no
page limits, no printing costs.
You can think of us as the print edition’s hyperactive evil twin.
Every month or so we publish new work in each of our departments, so check
back again soon.
In the meantime: read, enjoy, submit,
and spread the word.
Yours,
The Editors
Darcy Cosper, Editor
When not reveling in Swinkdom, Darcy writes things—fiction, including
dirty
stories
for Nerve and a novel
that was published in 2004; screenplays; book reviews for publications
ranging from Bookforum
and the Los
Angeles Times to Daily Candy; and poetry with students
at Joseph Le Conte Middle School in Hollywood (their poems are much
better than hers) under the aegis of the good folks at 826LA.
Karen E. Steen, Deputy Editor
Karen lives in Berkeley and types words into a computer all day. Sometimes
the words find their way into the pages of Metropolis, ReadyMade,
Time Out New York, The New York Times, and the London Guardian.
A
couple thousand of these words even made it to the Los Angeles
Times bestseller list. See what she's strung together lately at
karensteen.com.
Wah-Ming Chang, Associate Editor | Copy Editor
Wah-Ming received an MFA in creative writing from Cornell University, and grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, and the Bronx Writers' Center. Her first published story appeared in Arts & Letters Journal of Contemporary Literature. She lives in New York City, where she works it in publishing, dances in the streets, and is the codirector of the PAGE reading series at the National Arts Club.
Jack Stewart, Assistant Editor
At the tender age of 22, and weighing in at an earth-shattering 95 pounds,
Jackson Stewart has already written six novels, all of which are currently
gathering dust at the bottom of a desk drawer. Want to read them? Jack
lives in Los Angeles and enjoys transgressive literature. In his spare
time he watches Italian exploitation movies and hangs out at Amoeba
Records. Check out his
first published article and his
myspace blog.
Cheryl Pientka, Reader
Cheryl Pientka is a freelance writer living in New York. A former literary
agent and scout, she is a graduate of Columbia University Graduate School
of Journalism, writes Paris
for Dummies and contributes to France for Dummies and
Europe for Dummies. In her free time she trains for the ING
New York City Marathon and hangs out with her rescued dog and cats.
